Description: Students from the Asian Pacific Development Center will come to Genesee to help with a forest health project. Latitude/Longitude: 39.711503, -105.303626 Additional Information: Camping Available: No Physical Difficulty: Easy, Moderate High Altitude Project: No Desired Number of Volunteers: 20 Total Adult Volunteers Attended: 2 Total Youth Volunteers Attended: 8 Total Volunteer Days: 10 Total Unique Volunteers: 10 Total Volunteer Hours: 30 Staff Hours: 6 Stipend Hours: 0 Project Summary: On Thursday, June 2nd, 10 youth and adults came to Genesee Park from the Asian Pacific Development Center in Aurora. The park had 3 sawyers from Jefferson County out to help thin the forest. The group helped to clear all the brush from the sawyers, and also used hand saws to cut down more trees. The small group was able to clear 2 acres of thick trees, to make for a healthier forest ecosystem and help the forest ready itself for wildfires. Successes and Challenges: There were supposed to be 20 that showed up from the group, but only 10 came out. It was still a really hardworking group, and Habakkuk from the APDC has been a great partner and supporter of VOC for the past few years.
