Project Summary: On Tuesday, July 19th, 10 volunteers from the Boys and Girls Club of Weld County came out to St. Vrain State Park to help with some trail maintenance around Red Tail Pond. The trail was overgrown with weeds and was in need of some attention! The day was very hot -- a high of 96 degrees -- but the kids worked hard.
Successes and Challenges: Challenges -- it was really hot out, and we were working in the hottest part of the day! We took a much needed cookie & water break for 15 minutes, and then got back to work.
The trail soil was also really compact, so the work went really slow to get the weeds out, without causing damage to the trail.
Lessons Learned: The Boys and Girls Club of Weld County is a very willing partner. Pedro, the Teen Director, loves getting his students out. However, they can never commit to big groups. Might try pairing them up with another group in the future.
Special Notes:
Stewardship Education: Provided by Park staff-- talked about the park, its history and its current use.
