This project will help protect delicate ecosystems and improve overall sustainability of the park, as well as provide access for park users and the Audubon Society, who will use this area heavily for their programming. Description: The Discovery Pavilions area at Chatfield State Park was heavily impacted by the heavy rains and flooding in June 2015. The reservoir saw record level highs, and many of the parks trails were destroyed. The Cairn Youth Program students will be leading volunteers in new trail construction to make a more sustainable system for park users, along with a few other tasks. The students invited out family, friends and community members to participate in the trail building project. They did all the talking, from the welcome pitch, to the safety speech. The group was able to get close to 2,000 feet of new crusher fine trail built for the park! Delicious lunch from Subway and Garlic Knot was appreciated by everyone. Successes and Challenges: The crusher fines were in a LARGE pile (we didn't nearly come close to using it all) in the parking lot. They had to be hauled a long way via wheelbarrows, which got very tiring. Lessons Learned: Special Notes: Stewardship Education: Provided by the stewardship educator team of students!
