Description: About the Stewardship Site
The Mount Evans Outdoor Education Laboratory School, near Evergreen, is situated on a historic property originally known as the Dodge Ranch. It serves as one of two locations for Jefferson County's hands-on Outdoor Lab Schools, where sixth grade students live at the ranch for a week and study the area's history, ecology, wildlife, geology, and astronomy. The site boasts a main lodge and outbuildings, hiking trails, and spectacular views in the shadow of Mount Evans.
About the Volunteer Experience
Volunteers will construct a trail reroute on a section that is in desperate need of a new design. Work will include constructing and closing trails, as well as installing rock steps and rock walls as needed. This is a great opportunity for first-time trail builders! As food will not be provided on this project, all volunteers should plan to bring a lunch and snack.
About the Overall Impact
The rerouted trail will allow thousands of Outdoor Lab students the opportunity to safely hike around the beautiful grounds of the camp and stop at various educational attractions along the way.
