The group worked hard to mulch half of the park's many trees, 45 in total. They used wrenches and wire cutters to bring down the two hockey rinks, which proved to be a lot of work. We had to drag the paneling away and stack all the metal poles. The group did a great job! Successes and Challenges: It was really hot out, especially on the concrete hockey rinks. The group was fading fast by the time lunch approached. One of the employees from the town brought Gatorades for everyone, which was very nice. Some of the bolts needed to be grinded down, which took a lot of extra time from the town staff. Lessons Learned: Start summer projects early and end early! The deconstruction of the hockey rinks was a fun project, and the group got instant gratification seeing it all come down. Special Notes: The Town of Windsor staff has really enjoyed working with VOC. They said they hope to continue the relationship, and are working in a budget for volunteer swag. Stewardship Education: Provided by VOC staff. Key Concerns or Comments from Staff or Volunteers: Description of Accidents/Incidents: Description of Work Completed:
