Project Summary: On May 9th, 103 third graders from Northridge Elementary School came out to Castlewood Canyon State Park to help remove mullein from their Homestead area. The park had several volunteer leaders come out to help, and the kids were very excited. They worked for about 2 hours, and ate lunch in the Luca Homestead house, which was a very cool experience for them!
Successes and Challenges: The particular parking lot that we were working out of did not have a restroom, so the busses had to drive a mile up the road to the next lot. This took away a lot of time for the project, and it would be advised to have a bathroom on site for any kid project.
Lessons Learned: 3rd-6th graders LOVE weeding! A lot of exclamations of "this is the best field trip ever!"
