Start Date-End Date: 09/15/2016-09/15/2016 Land Manager Office: CPW - Castlewood Canyon State Park Land Manager Contact: Joe Marquez Funding Partner: Programmatic Partner: Summary: Restore a trail in this beautiful Colorado State Park that is hidden in the plains. Description: About the Stewardship Site Located southeast of the Denver metro area, Castlewood Canyon State Park is home to unique geology and Colorado history. Trails crisscross the rim and floor of the canyon, providing various hiking opportunities with wonderful views of the canyon as well as the surrounding mountains and rolling hills of Parker and Franktown. The Rim Rock Trail itself serves as a loop that connects six miles of trail. Many of the trails in Castlewood Canyon were built by VOC in our early years, and now we return to offer some much-needed TLC! About the Volunteer Experience Volunteers ages 14 and up will repair and maintain the Rim Rock Trail, which has become severely damaged and eroded as a result of heavy rains these past few years. The physical challenge will be moderate to difficult, and tasks may include drainage feature construction, timber steps installation, and basic tread and corridor maintenance. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided, so bring your appetite and a few friends! This is a great project for small groups of 15 or less. About the Overall Impact The crucial maintenance and erosion repair that volunteers will provide is essential in ensuring the Rim Rock Trail's longevity and usability. Castlewood Canyon State Park is enjoyed by many Front Range nature lovers and hikers, and volunteers' efforts to keep the park's popular Rim Rock Trail in optimal condition will be visible and appreciated for years to come!
