Summary: Volunteers new and old will enjoy this project's iconic Colorado setting.
Description: About the Stewardship Site:
Red Rocks Park, known for its remarkable landscape of red sandstone outcroppings, is a true Colorado landmark. It's a world-famous concert venue, and home to awe-inspiring hiking and biking trails perfect for exploring the geology, forests, wildflowers and wildlife, with views of Denver and beyond. The park's Trading Post Trail, where this project takes place, is a 1.5-mile loop that can be accessed via an easy hike.
About the Volunteer Experience:
Volunteers will perform much-needed maintenance and rehabilitation on a 2,000-foot section of the Trading Post Trail. Work will include installing timber steps and drainage structures, spreading crusher fine material and removing old concrete sections of trail, among other moderate tasks. This is a great opportunity for new volunteers and those wanting to learn more about trail restoration in a beautiful setting. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided to ensure a productive day.
About the Overall Impact:
Due to the popularity of Red Rocks, hiking traffic is heavy throughout the year. This means damage to the park's trails can happen fast and become widespread. Volunteers will assist the park by bringing the Trading Post Trail to safe, sustainable conditions so it can continue to be enjoyed for years to come.

Project Summary: The project was pretty straight forward In terms of the work and logistics, so nothing too remarkable came up outside of the standard project roll out. I had worked with Bob earlier in the year on the Dedisse project, which we received some negative feedback from, but found him to have improved his communication and volunteer feedback style.
As with most DMP projects we had our work set out and then plenty of last minute add ons from Bob and Brad. Some of the sections were fairly simple and the groups were able to complete them early so it wasn't a big deal moving on to these side project. It's always nice to have the extra work lined up in these situations to keep people busy. The trail was super busy for most of the day which slowed down the work a bit but I suppose there wasn't much to do about that.
Successes and Challenges: Successes;
We got 90 % of the work done, including installing some pretty massive steps
The weather was overcast and made for great working conditions at the park
We were able to time things to get out of the park right before all the concert traffic arrived
Challenges;
We had quite a few no shows which was a bummer because we did have a waitlist
It was tough to recruit CLs for some reason, but ended up being fine day of with no shows
