Start Date-End Date: 08/23/2017-08/23/2017 Land Manager Office: Cal-Wood Education Center Land Manager Contact: Angie Busby Funding Partner: Programmatic Partner: Boulder Mountain Bike Alliance (formerly Off-Road Alliance) Summary: Youth SWAT for the Denver Waldorf School VOC staff (myself and maybe one other) would only be with them for the work portion of the days and would not be camping. If it was easier for you they could do one full day of work. Description: About the group: Around 25 freshman and senior students 3 Waldorf teachers Camping @ Cal-Wood from August 22nd-25th. half-day project on the 23rd, from 1:00-5:00 pm Latitude/Longitude: 40.145934, -105.391618 Additional Information: Camping Available: Yes Physical Difficulty: Moderate High Altitude Project: No Desired Number of Volunteers: 28 Total Adult Volunteers Attended: 3 Total Youth Volunteers Attended: 22 Total Volunteer Days: 25 Total Unique Volunteers: 25 Total Volunteer Hours: 75 Staff Hours: 9 Stipend Hours: 0 Project Summary: On August 23rd, 2017 22 high schoolers, seniors and freshman as well as 3 of their teachers did a trail project at Cal-Wood Educational Center. Cal-Wood kindly agreed to allow them to camp there from the 22nd-25th for free if they did two half day volunteer projects. VOC led the project that took place on the 23rd, and Cal-Wood's Angie Busby led the project on the 24th. The project on the 23rd focused on building about 50 feet of new trail as well as tidying up and leveling out another 300 or so feet of new trail that still needed some touching up. The group worked hard despite the rain. Successes and Challenges: Challenges Minimal to no supervision by Waldorf Staff during projects. Despite prior communication to the group from both Angie and myself about camping and Cal-wood information, the group was very under prepared to be out camping for 4 days. The school was in charge of all camping/logistics regarding everything but the volunteer projects, but their under preparedness gave Angie more work than I would have liked. School had a lot of demands and initiallywanted VOC to run the camping portion without any monetary contributions. This was a time consuming project to plan.
