Summary: Lend some muscle to rebuild a bridge in one of the most rewarding opportunities of the season!
Description: About the Stewardship Site:
The 4,000-acre Roxborough State Park, just a short drive southwest of Denver, is known for its dramatic red sandstone formations, distinct plant habitats, and a range of wildlife including elk, eagles, and black bears. The popular South Rim Loop Trail offers visitors the opportunity to take in all that Roxborough has to offer in its remarkable geology and biodiversity.
About the Volunteer Experience:
Volunteers will spend the weekend rebuilding the bridge near the South Rim Loop Trailhead, moving and securing stringers (the beams that carry the rest of the bridge) into place and constructing the bridge's decking and railings. You'll be working with a small group of volunteers ages 16+, making this a great opportunity to get to know your fellow volunteers, learn and perform various carpentry and construction tasks, and play a critical part in restoring this bridge to the South Rim Loop Trail.
There is a lot to learn on this project and as such, both days are required to maximize your skills and the amount of work we can accomplish. Please note thatcamping is not provided, or offered, in Roxborough State Park.
About the Impact:
The bridge is the main connection from the parking lot to the trailhead and is in serious disrepair. If not rebuilt by volunteers, the bridge will continue to deteriorate, becoming a safety hazard for visitors and potentially impassable, limiting access to the South Rim Loop Trail.
