The students and teachers helped members of the park in the removal of a thick corridor of Russian Olive trees at a campsite by the lake. This park is particularly overgrown with Russian Olives as many were planted years ago by farmers in the area. This particular swath of trees were starting to kill some of the nearby cottonwoods and taking over the drainage which was causing the parallel dirt road to experience sink holes. The students worked hard removing close to 1.5 acres of 10 year old Russian Olive, then carrying the cut down trees and branches to the chipper. Successes and Challenges: Tyler and Mike from Jackson Lake State Park are an absolute pleasure to work with. I think that we could have many more successful projects out at this site. They are happy to provide camping for volunteers (year around).
