Project Summary: Del Norte High School Citizen Science Plant Monitoring Day - September 26 and 27 - worked with 10 DNHS students in Nikki Horrocks' Sustainability and Hydroponics class to do citizen science plant phenology monitoring using the national platform Nature's Notebook, run by the National Phenology Network. On September 27 I conducted a classroom session to teach the kids about citizen science, phenology, how it tracks climate changes and how to do actual data collection on various plants. September 26 was a field day. I helped the kids do field data collection on a variety of trees, shrubs, forbs and grasses. This data goes into the database used by the RGNF for monitoring data on climate variability: The National Phenology Network.
