Description

Start Date-End Date: 10/05/2018-10/05/2018 Land Manager Office: CPW - Golden Gate Canyon State Park Land Manager Contact: Joe Burkins Funding Partner: Programmatic Partner: Summary: This project was for 15 high school students from Renaissance Secondary School. It was part of an expedition they do each Fall, where they backpack/camp for 4 days and we were the stewardship component on the final day of the trip (Friday). The project included trail maintenance, taking out barbed wire, and corridor clearing. Description: The project is at the Ole Knoll Trailhead on Mule Deer Trail, and consists of leveling out the trail to prevent further cupping that was occurring, due to mountain bikers. If there is extra time, we will clear out barbed wire and do some corridor clearing. Communication was a bit tough with Brooks from Renaissance Secondary School, but CMC was a great partner and Joe from GGCSP was an awesome contact. The type and amount of work would have been perfect for this group, but due to the fact that we only ended up with 15 students and it was the last day of their expedition, the group was very tired and did not get as much done as we had originally hoped we would. Nevertheless, we were still able to level out the cupping issue within the first couple hundred feet of the trail and I think the students had a fun time learning about trail work and spending time in GGCSP. It would be great to collaborate with this group in the future on another stewardship project and also use the site for a corporate SWAT or another youth group.
