With a multi-use trail circling the lake and more than 350 bird species, the park is a popular destination for families, hikers, wildlife watchers, anglers, and boaters. VOC's Cairn students came together with Wildland Restoration Volunteer's high school program WILD for this project at Barr Lake that wrapped up the work along the Pioneer Trail that VOC volunteers had done in October. 48 youth and 8 adults stained fencing and benches, added another coat of paint to the observation deck, removed 1 acre of invasive weeds, spread native seeds, and cleared 4 acres of shoreline of trash. The volunteers were treated to a birds of prey program over lunch to learn about the many birds that call the area home.
