Start Date-End Date: 06/22/2019-06/23/2019 Land Manager Office: CPW - State Office Land Manager Contact: Craig Preston Funding Partner: Programmatic Partner: Yampatika Summary: Spend a weekend in the scenic Yampa Valley! Open to individuals as well as families. Description: Where You'll Be: About 30 minutes south of Steamboat Springs, Stagecoach State Park rests in the Yampa Valley and boasts 1,641 acres and a 771-acre reservoir on the Yampa River. In addition, the park adjoins a nearly 1,000-acre parcel of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land, providing through-routes to more than 35,000 acres of the Routt National Forest and the Sarvis Creek Wilderness Area. What You'll Do: Individuals and families alike can enjoy this signature Family Camping Project. While children ages 6-11 enjoy fun, educational activities led by VOC's Programs Manager and local organization Yampatika, children ages 12+ will work alongside parents and family members to finish and polish a one-mile section of new trail, originally cut by machine prior to the project. You'll dig and move dirt to ensure proper trail structure and drainage; re-seed the area; and spread, pack, and install materials to further stabilize the trail and mitigate erosion. All volunteers will enjoy camping in the park and meals from our volunteer Crew Chefs on Saturday and Sunday. Click here to learn more about the importance of trail maintenanceand save the dates for our Family Camping projects in the San Luis Valley (May 18-19) and Silverthorne (August 11-12). Why It Matters: The trail you help complete will extend the South Routt trail system and provide access to a sizable area of public lands available offering a variety of recreational opportunities forhikers, bikers, backpackers, equestrians, hunters, fishermen, and wildlife enthusiasts. This project is highly desired by both the local community as well as park visitors, and the results of your efforts will be greatly appreciated and enjoyed for years to come!
