Summary: Featuring a post-project happy hour! Repair bridges damaged in the 2013 floods at this popular park.
Description: Project photo from Colorado.com
Where You'll Be:
Only a short drive from Denver, Golden Gate Canyon State Park boasts over 12,000 acres of dense forest, rocky peaks, and aspen-rimmed meadows laced with miles of trails. With options for hikers, mountain bikers, backpackers, equestrians, anglers, campers, rock climbers, and winter sports enthusiasts, it's not surprising an estimated 850,000 visitors recreate here annually. The park also provides a home for a great number and variety of wildlife, providing the perfect place for wildlife watching and photography.
What You'll Do:
Join approximately 60 volunteers in building and restoring bridges along the Mountain Lion Trail in Golden Gate Canyon State Park. Many of the trail's bridges were damaged or destroyed in the 2013 floods and while many have been replaced or rebuilt over the years, there is still work to be done! The majority of volunteers will help build two new bridges while others will help maintain existing bridges, create drainage structures, and improve the trail tread. Breakfast and lunch will be provided, as well as a post-project happy hour sponsored by Colorado Native!
Why It Matters:
The Mountain Lion Trail is popular with a wide variety of users but hazardous bridges and an eroding trail pose a safety risk to all. With limited resources, Colorado Parks & Wildlife has been forced to focus on maintaining what they already have; by volunteering, your efforts will be an enormous help to the agency and to the trail, and your work will be visible for many years to come!
