To help provide a fun and safe experience for all, there are a few temporary changes to be prepared for: You may sign up for one or all days of this project,though we encourage multi-day registration to limit the number of interactions and potential exposure. You may only register yourself.Every volunteer must sign our digital COVID-specific forms ahead of time to be able to attend. You must provide your own food and, if desired, overnight accommodations.VOC will not be providing campsites or meals at this time.Campsites will only be offered as needed to VOC Crew Leaders and Project Team members. Where You'll Be: Located at nearly 10,000 feet, Turquoise Lake is a mere 5 miles from the small and unique town of Leadville. The lake boasts beautiful mountain views and opportunities for fishing, hiking, mountain biking, and relaxing on the beach. What You'll Do: Spend a day or two with VOC and Cloud City Wheelers to build a new, bike-optimized trail in the beautiful Turquoise Lake Recreation Area. This volunteer project will be led by Mike Mattice, a volunteer who has led trail crews on nearly 50 VOC projects since 2014. Why It Matters: Lake County is more than 75% public land, which makes it a priority to support the area's economy through sustainable outdoor recreation. Years in the works, this project will be the first major trail construction on this Forest Service property in a decade. Volunteers' efforts will help bring new trails to this heavily trafficked recreation area, providing more entry-level biking trails for families and beginners to enjoy this fantastic natural area.
