We are diligently working with our land management partners to address the logistical challenges posted by COVID-19 and provide safe volunteer opportunities. Please stay tuned and visitwww.voc.org/covid19for the most up-to-date information on VOC's response. Where You'll Be: Located near the border of Eagle County and Grand County, Sheephorn sits at close to 8,000 feet above sea level in the White River National Forest. The area is home to several ranches, and many grazingallotment boundary fences were burned in the July 2017 Gutzler Fire. What You'll Do: Spend a Saturday helping wildlife! Join approximately 30 volunteers ages 14+ in removing a half-mile of fencing that was burned in the 2017 Gutzler Fire and currently presents a significant hazard to wildlife.Since this project is a three-hour drive from Denver, we will provide campsites for those who are interested in camping the Friday night before - a unique opportunity for a single-day project! Our fabulous volunteer Crew Chefs will provide breakfast and lunch on Saturday for all. Why It Matters: Volunteers' efforts will improve the overall habitat, opening wildlife migration corridors and providing access to nutrient-rich food. In addition, this project will allow nearby ranchers to rebuild a section of smooth-wire fencing, which is more wildlife-friendly and will help manage cattle movement. Need-to-Know Details: Minors under 16 must be accompanied by an adult 21 years or olderon single-day projects. VOC will provide all equipmentincluding tools and work gloves.
