Project Summary: VOC's Cairn group partnered with students from WRV's WILD program to participate in an interactive Leave No Trace awareness training.
This training was customized to address that these students often find themselves in positions where they are the "experts" among their peers and family members when it comes to Leave No Trace knowledge, however, many have expressed being unsure about how to address people's questions/encourage behavioral change. This training provide students with a multitude of scenarios they might encounter, as well as challenged them to understand their own bias' when it comes to how the interact with our natural world.
Students had a chance to engage in large and small group discussions around this topic.
Successes and Challenges: It was good to partner with WRV for this since we were both lower on attendance numbers (a trend for January projects)
Rachel and I both thought that a lot of the activities could have had some more movement included, and we would have liked if Micah from LNT had done a little bit more of an icebreaker at the beginning.
