Summary: Independent volunteer opportunity to remove noxious weeds in City of Greeley Natural Areas.
Description: About the Stewardship Site
The City of Greeley has many Natural Areas that have the noxious weeds curly dock and thistles in them that are harming nearby native plants and must be managed.
About the Volunteer Experience
Volunteers must attend this training in which they will learn about the noxious weeds we're targeting - their impact, how to identify them, how to manage them, and the process of volunteering to remove them. This will allow them to go out independently and identify and dig up and pull curly doc and thistle to support the efforts of the natural areas. Tina Booton, the Weld County Weed Division Supervisor will conduct the weed training via an online Zoom meeting, and Beth Ray, VOC's Weld Volunteer & Partnership Coordinator, will train on the volunteer logistic portion. The Zoom details will be sent out a day in advance.
About the Overall Impact
The eradication of the invasive and troublesome noxious weeds remains a priority in Weld County and throughout many parts of Colorado. By taking part in this important work, you can help preserve Greeley's Natural Areas and Colorado ecosystems for generations to come.
