Need-to-Know Details: We greatly appreciate you volunteering your time and energy to care for Colorado's outdoor places during COVID-19. To help provide a fun and safe experience for all, there are a few temporary changes to be prepared for: You may sign up for one or all days of this project, though we encourage multi-day registration to limit the number of interactions and potential exposure. You may only register yourself. Every volunteer must sign our digital COVID-specific forms ahead of time to be able to attend. You must pack your own lunches. Cancellation & Waitlists: Due to limited spots on this year's projects, we expect projects to fill quickly with waitlists. If you need to cancel, please email outreach@voc.org as soon as possible so we can free your spot for another volunteer and have a full workforce. Where You'll Be: Glenwood Canyon was carved more than 3 million years ago by the Colorado River and is a popular destination for hiking, biking, rafting, and sightseeing. But in early August 2020, the Grizzly Creek Fire began burning in Glenwood Canyon just one mile east of Glenwood Springs. By the time the fire was fully contained in December 2020, it had torn through more than 32,000 acres. Many trails and attractions in the area remain closed due to fire damage. What You'll Do: Volunteers ages 14+ are invited to join us for a weekend of important restoration work near Glenwood Springs. Tasks are still being determined, but could include everything from trail reconstruction to planting and reseeding or erosion control. Either way, you'll help give these burned areas critical care. Camping is available Friday and Saturday night; VOC's volunteer Crew Chefs will provide breakfast on Saturday and Sunday as well as dinner on Saturday night. Why It Matters: It will take a concentrated effort to restore this area's trails and habitats after the devastating fire. Volunteers will be a huge part of that effort, and your participation this weekend will go a long way in making a difference!
