Project Summary: Four Cairn students and one mentor attended the single-day Youth Exploring Stewardship (YES) Conference in Jamestown, CO. The YES Conference was one of three options for Cairn students to choose from for their October monthly project. One conference organizer, a staff member from WRV summarized the conference by saying: "We had a ton of fun exploring our shared passion for the outdoors, community, and stewardship with you at Cal-Wood through nature bathing, survival skills, habitat restoration and more! Our fire restoration project was a great success, with 40 trees and shrubs and 100 grass plugs planted, and your [attendees] enthusiasm and engagement made the whole day possible."
Successes and Challenges: Successes:
-YES Coalition partner organizations had staff members who planned a lot of diverse programming.
-Students enjoyed themselves, and our Cairn mentor who attended stated that the conference was well-run and planned.
Challenges:
-I wasn't able to take part in the planning process or attend the actual conference due to my limited capacity with my end-of-season VOC workload.
-The conference was challenging to recruit students for when it was planned to be an overnight trip; the conference had to be shifted to a single-day due to low registration numbers at the last minute.
