We had 4 youth groups participating: WRV, VOC, LHOCYP, and participants from Greenway foundation. We started the day with an ice breaker activity to have all the students moving and getting to know each other a little better. After the icebreaker activity, we all walked to the worksite (~5 minute walk). WRV staff provided all tools and they were staged at the work area. Once we arrived, City of Longmont (land manager) welcomed all students, lead a safety talk and explain the work for the day. Students organized themselves and chose what flower/tree bed to work on. The project was to cover flower/tree beds with mulch. All mulch was piled in a central point and students used wheel barriers and big buckets to transport it. It took about 2.5 hours to students to transport all the mulch. We had a lunch break at the work site and walked back to the main area of the park where we had one more group activity (acting charades). Around 2pm all students were dismiss. Successes and Challenges: Successes: Students seem to work great with other youth groups.
