Summary: Registraton opens March 1. Celebrate Colorado Public Lands Day in this scenic state park!
Description: Where You'll Be:
Roxborough State Park carries the esteemed designation of a Colorado Natural Area and a National Natural Landmark for good reason. The 4,000-acre park, nestled against the foothills south of Littleton, is comprised of stunning red rock formations, unique plant communities, and a wide range of wildlife including elk, eagles, and black bears.
What You'll Do:
Volunteers ages 14+ are invited to celebrate Colorado Public Lands Day - and the 125th anniversary of Colorado Parks and Wildlife - on this large trail-building project! We'll spend the day building a new trail, the Bear Canyon Trail, in a remote part of the park. VOC volunteers helped break ground on this trail last year and you can help build the next section. There will be something for everyone, from brand-new beginners to skilled trail builders, as tasks will range from cutting the trail itself to clearing the trail corridor of branches and shrubs, installing drains and dips, and building switchbacks.
Why It Matters:
Roxborough State Park sees almost 15,000 visitors each year and that number is only growing. The new trail you help build will offer additional recreation opportunities and alleviate some of the heavy use of the nearby Carpenter Peak Trail. The proposed trail will connect to the multiple trails in the area, making for many new loop options.
About Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC)Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) is the state's oldest, largest, and leading outdoor stewardship nonprofit organization. Founded in 1984 to motivate and enable people to become active stewards of Colorado's natural resources, VOC has engaged nearly 128,000 people in more than 1,000 volunteer projects for a donated labor value of $26 million. Through award-winning youth and volunteer programs, leadership training, capacity-building programs, and collaborative efforts with nonprofits and land management agencies, VOC is an invaluable resource in Colorado, especially as our outdoor stewardship needs are approaching near-crisis levels.
