Summary: Help maintain a trail for climbing access.
Description: Project photo by Cindy Bond
Where You'll Be:
Located southeast of the Denver Metro area, Castlewood Canyon State Park is home to unique geology and Colorado history. Trails crisscross the rim and floor of the canyon, providing various hiking opportunities with wonderful views of the canyon as well as the surrounding mountains and rolling hills of Parker and Franktown.
Anyone that attends a VOC volunteer opportunity in August, September, and October will be entered in a drawing for the chance to win a $300 SCHEELS Gift Card. The more opportunities you attend, the more entries you will earn. Good luck!
What You'll Do:
Help care for your state parks on the 125th anniversary of Colorado Parks and Wildlife! Volunteers ages 16+ are invited to join us in Castlewood Canyon State Park to help repair a climbing access trail. Throughout the day, you'll work alongside approximately 40 volunteers to install new timber steps and rock steps. We'll also repair existing steps, clear brush to maintain the trail corridor, and close unsanctioned "social trails". This is a great way to spend a Saturday in one of Colorado's beautiful state parks while contributing to the safety and sustainability of the canyon.
Why It Matters:
Castlewood Canyon is a popular park, and many hikers and climbers use this trail each year. High visitation has taken its toll and the steps you build and repair will help prevent further erosion and damage, making this trail safer and more enjoyable for the area's many visitors.
About Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC)
