Start Date-End Date: 07/27/2022-07/27/2022 Land Manager Office: USFS - Clear Creek Ranger District Land Manager Contact: Ralph Bradt Funding Partner: Programmatic Partner: Summary: Registration opens June 1. Restore a popular neighborhood trail on this Wednesday project. Description: Project photo courtesy of DayHikesNearDenver.com Where You'll Be: With easy access from the Denver Metro area and many recreation enthusiasts in the immediate area, the Maxwell Falls Trail is popular with all types of hikers. In the Spring, runoff makes for a pleasant hike that follows Maxwell Creek to the namesake Maxwell Falls. There are numerous ways to access the falls, including a loop option and point-to-point hikes, and is a favorite with neighborhood residents, families, tourists, and trail runners thanks to its relatively easy grade and scenic setting. What You'll Do: On this Wednesday project, you'll be led by VOC volunteer Mike Mattice, who has participated in over 50 projects since he started volunteering with us in 2014. You'll join Mike and a group of up to 20 volunteers as you work to complete a variety of maintenance tasks on the Maxwell Falls Trail. This will include narrowing the trail and marking the path to help keep volunteers on the trail and off the surrounding vegetation. Other tasks may include clearing drains, building small retaining walls or rock steps, and closing unsustainable, user-created "social trails". Why It Matters: It's not easy being popular, and the Maxwell Falls Trail is feeling the impacts of high visitation. Your efforts will be a huge help to the U.S. Forest Service Clear Creek Ranger District, which manages the trail, as you work to address problems such as trail widening and braiding, exposed roots, eroding tread, and unsanctioned "social trails". About Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) is the state's oldest, largest, and leading outdoor stewardship nonprofit organization.
