Summary: Celebrate Arbor Day and help bring Riverside Park back to life on this tree planting project!
Description: Project photo by Sue Daniels Photography
Where You'll Be:
In 2013, Riverside Park was completely destroyed by the historic floods that flowed through Colorado. Five years later, Riverside Park was able to re-open, providing residents with plenty of open space along the South Platte River as well as softball fields, basketball, and picketball courts, a playground, and a 7-acre lake for fishing! But the work isn't over yet. VOC worked to seed this area to help restore the area to its former glory, and now we are returning to plant some trees to continue to reestablish vegetation.
What You'll Do:
Join VOC to plant trees on Arbor Day! On this Friday project, you'll spend the day working with up to 30 volunteers to plant trees at Riverside Park.A special thank you to One Tree Planted for supporting this event as part of their Earth Month initiatives!
Why It Matters:
Riverside Park is a gem in the City of Evans, and was greatly missed while it was closed for restoration and repairs. By volunteering, you will play an important part in restoring this park to its former glory and providing ample recreation opportunities for residents to enjoy!

Project Summary: Volunteers planted 13 larger ball & burlap or container trees, staked them, and mulched them.
Successes and Challenges: Project went really well! Holes were pre-dug and trees were stationed at the holes already. One Tree Planted had sponsored this project through the City of Evans and they were on-site with four staff members present with lots of fun swag for volunteers. Work moved quickly and we finished a little early, which was ok because the wind had picked up and we saw lightning in the distance as we finished up.
Lessons Learned: It's hard to estimate the number of volunteers needed to get tree planting done!
Special Notes: Also had groups from Dicks Sporting Goods and Weldwerks out.
